Soft Skills make or break the hiring decision. If you can’t communicate, be engaged, participate fully, think critically, or demonstrate leadership, it doesn’t matter how technically qualified you are. This program aims to teach these invaluable skills.
Do you want a career in the skilled trades, but don’t know where to start? Our pre-apprenticeship skilled trades program may be a great option. You can earn credentials, earn while you earn, and launch into employment right after.
The goal of the Technical Skills program is to supply skilled workers to manufacturing businesses and healthcare establishments who need these in-demand jobs filled to sustain operations and potentially grow. We partner with the Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME), Senior Home Share and Warm Hearth Village to complete training and pathway into employment.
Filling the Trades Gap aims to be responsive to the needs of businesses, workers, and jobseekers in the New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Development region, focusing on the three skilled trade sectors of Industrial Trades, Construction Trades, and Service Trades. Data provided by Virginia Tech’s Center for Economic and Community Engagement support the need for this project showing that there are over 6,000 annual openings in these three skilled trade areas in the region.
